How we financially support our families
Uniform support at St James:
At St James School we have high expectations of our students' appearance and all are expected to wear their full uniform with pride. For full information regarding uniforms at St James, please visit here
Items that have the St James logo can be purchased online from Price and Buckland.
Parents can purchase other items, such as shirts and trousers, from any retailer.
If you require any additional information regarding St James school uniform, please email our Student Service team: studentservices@stjamesexeter.co.uk
Free School Meals (FSM) students:
If your child is eligible for FSM, it means they can enjoy delicious and healthy meals provided in school. School meals will give your child a real appetite for learning and help them to achieve their full potential.
Students claiming FSM receive a daily allowance to spend on food and drink and, thanks to the cashless catering system at St James School, a child claiming FSM is treated the same as other students and cannot be identified. Their allowance gets added to their account each morning and any unspent allowance removed after lunch. The current FSM allowance is £2.60 and can be used at break and/or lunch.
Applications for FSM can be made through the Devon Citizen’s Portal.
If you require any additional information regarding FSM, please email Tara Stirzaker: tara.stirzaker@stjamesexeter.co.uk
Pupil Premium / Equity in Education (EiE) students:
At St James, our students are at the heart of everything we do. We are a community committed to creating opportunities for students to develop high aspirations, to make progress, and take advantage of all that school has to offer.
Fundamental to this aim is ensuring that students in receipt of Pupil Premium are supported and challenged to take a full, active part in school life, engaging with their learning, both in school and at home, embracing the culture of high expectations and accessing our excellent extracurricular activities.
‘Pupil Premium’ is the name for the group of students who have been or are FSM (Free School Meals) within the last 6 years. At St James School, these students are known as our Equity in Education (EiE) students.
EiE students are able to access financial support in school such as equipment from the school library, uniform provided and/or support in purchasing new items, grants of up to 50% towards the cost of trips, weekly fresh fruit and vegetable hampers and/or weekly non-perishable hampers from our St James Community Larder (tins, pasta, shampoo, sanitary products, nappies and much more!)
Additionally, EiE students are also supported by having a staff member champion whose job is to mentor them once a term during their school life, reward and support systems, funded places for the post-16 Reach academy and extra career support.
