This page gives some further information on the assessments that were taken at the end of last. Each subject has a description of the assessments and year group averages for each assessment.

Art

Technical and practical assessment of drawing skills and cumulative assessment of sketchbook work.

Computing

 

 

Over the course of 6 lessons, year 8 have been learning about searching and sorting algorithms from the second component in the OCR GCSE for Computer Science. They have completed a short quiz on sorting algorithms at the end of three the lessons and an average knowledge score has been created from this. * The average score accounts for any absences during this time.

Drama

Knowledge gardes have been generated from a theory test on Verbatim theatre and Naturalism.

Students devised a short verbatim piece in small groups which they performed

Engineering

Describing workshop processes students have untaken in their project work and reading a manufacturing drawing to correctly dimension 5 key parts on 2 drawing views.

10 multiple choice questions about metal work tools and materials used within their current project.

English

The students answered a question about George Orwell’s Animal Farm, focused on the dishonest behaviour. To be successful, students needed to present a clear and well-argued argument in response to the question, presenting a clear point of view (or thesis) throughout their essay. Students receive marks for exploring themes, characters and ideas, for analysing the writer’s methods (language and structural choices) and for framing their comments in the context of when the text was written and set.

Food Technology

A 50 mark assessment where students synoptically apply their knowledge from the current cycle and prior learning. This will focus on the modalities of listening, reading and translation. 

 

A 25 mark question multiple-choice assessment testing students' knowledge of phonics, vocabulary and grammar from this cycle. These elements are all in line with the NCELP pedagogy (see website for more information https://ncelp.org/).

 

Geography

The assessment was on the topic of Weather & Climate Change, with a range of short answer questions, a skills question interpreting a synoptic chart and a question worth 9 marks at the end of the paper requiring extended writing. The knowledge marks were out of 14 and the application was out of 11.

The assessment consists of short and medium written answers on British empire  – 20 marks available for application.

JBACC

The JBACC Cycle 1 test for year 8 was an assessment of their knowledge and understanding of the Philosophy and ethics topic.  It consisted of 20 multiple choice question that was based on the key words in their Knowledge organisers and an evaluation question that was worth 12 marks.

A paper made of  appropriate GCSE style questions based on all topics that have been covered in lessons in cycle, and marked according to GCSE criteria.
