Year 7 – Extra Report Information

Your child will be able to describe the assessments they sat at the end of last term. However, this page gives some further information on the assessments that were taken at the end of last. Each subject has a description of the assessments and year group averages for each assessment.

Art

Technical and practical assessment of drawing skills. Cumulative assessment of the progress in sketchbook and portfolio work.

Computing

 

 

Over the course of 6 lessons, year 7 have been getting to know the school systems which has required them to work from desktops and Chromebook and both the Microsoft and Google platforms. They have started learning about the architecture of modern computers, learning about the units they use, the hardware which supports them and understanding what factors affect performance. They have completed a short quiz in each of these areas and an average knowledge score has been created from this. If this score shows as a 0 it means they were absent when the test was taken.

Engineering

Describing workshop processes students have untaken in their project work and reading a manufacturing drawing to correctly dimension 5 key parts on 2 drawing views.

The students were asked to plan and write the opening of a story inspired by the picture of a battle. They have a planning grid to help them structure their ideas. Students needed to structure their writing in a narrative arc, write in paragraphs and write accurately with a range of punctuation and sentence structures. They also needed to use effective vocabulary and literary devices.

A 50-mark assessment where students synoptically apply their knowledge from the current cycle and prior learning. This will focus on the modalities of listening, reading and translation.

 

A 25-mark question multiple-choice assessment testing students' knowledge of phonics, vocabulary and grammar from this cycle. These elements are all in line with the NCELP pedagogy (see website for more information https://ncelp.org/).

 

Geography

The assessment was on the topic of Biomes, with a range of short answer questions, a skills question to interpret a climate graph and a question worth 6 marks at the end of the paper requiring extended writing. The knowledge marks were out of 12 and application was out of 13.

The assessment consists of short and medium written answers on Rome and the middle ages – 20 marks available for application.

JBACC

The JBACC Cycle 1 test for year 7 was an assessment of their knowledge and understanding of the Philosophy and ethics topic.  It consisted of 20 multiple choice question that was based on the key words in their Knowledge organisers and an evaluation question that was worth 12 marks.
