2020 Cycle 1 Assessment Information

During assessment week students sat numerous assessments in all of their subjects. These assessments allow teachers to identify areas for improvement and target their teaching in lessons during feedback here. Listed here are the types of assessment students took in each subject:

 

 

Year 7

7 Art & Design 5 question test assessing recall and retrieval of key terms, concepts and theory of drawing. Technical and practical assessment of drawing skills and cumulative assessment of sketchbook work.
7 Computing 15 mark knowledge based test on ESafety, Cyber Bullying and IT systems in School. A range of questions to test the student’s application of key concepts covered. There was a particular focus on Spreadsheets.
7 Drama Year 7 have completed a theory test on the defitniton of skills they have learnt this term. Performed a short scene from Charlie and the Chocolate factory
7 Engineering D&T 10 multiple choice questions about naming workshop tools and equipment Describing workshop processes students have untaken in their project work and reading a manufacturing drawing to correctly dimension 5 key parts on 2 drawing views.
7 English A twenty question test allowing recall and retrieval of the Rhetoric Unit covered in lessons this cycle. One 40 mark written assessment, with a question adapted from a past GCSE Language paper and marked according to GCSE criteria. Grades have been generated using grade boundaries based on boundaries in previous examination seasons and information released by Ofqual.
7 Geography Mixture of short answer knowledge questions based on the biomes topic, including a skills question using a climate graph. Some longer mark questions including a 6-mark level-assessed ‘explain’ question on the causes of deforestation in tropical rainforests.
7 History A 15 question multiple choice knowledge test on key facts from this cycle – The Battle of Hastings A GCSE style 20 mark question on reasons for William’s victory at the Battle of Hastings. Marked and graded according to GCSE criteria.
7 JBACC A ten question multiple choice test on key terms and dates covered this cycle.  A 12 mark evaluation question based on a statement related to the topic covered this cycle.
7 Maths A twenty question test allowing recall and retrieval of all topics covered in lessons this cycle. Two 40 mark written assessments, with appropriate questions taken from past GCSE papers, marked according to GCSE criteria.
7 MFL 25 mark quiz testing knowledge and grammar from this cycle Listening comprehension question, reading comprehension and a writing task
7 Music 11 question multiple choice assessment based on key terms and knowledge of this term. Performance assessment of keyboard skills.
7 Science A ten question multiple choice test allowing recall and retrieval of on topics covered in the Knowledge Organiser this cycle. A 35 question written assessment, with appropriate questions taken from past GCSE papers, marked according to GCSE criteria.

Year 8

8 Computing 15 mark knowledge based questions on networks and network hardware. A wider range of questions to test how well the students can apply thier understanding of key concepts relating  to network hardware, threats to networks and network topology.
8 Drama Knowledge gardes have been generated from a theory test on Verbatim theatre and Naturalism. Students devised a short verbatim piece in small groups which they performed
8 Engineering D&T 10 multiple choice questions about Computer Aided Design/Manufacture, metal work tools and materials. Identifying Advantages and Disadvantages of mechanised (CAD/CAM) use in industry. A design question designing parts suitable for Laser Cutting.
8 English A twenty question test allowing recall and retrieval of the Animal Farm Unit covered in lessons this cycle. One 30 mark written assessment, with a question adapted from a past GCSE Literature paper and marked according to GCSE criteria. Grades have been generated using grade boundaries based on boundaries in previous examination seasons and information released by Ofqual.
8 Geography Mixture of short answer knowledge-based questions including a few multiple choice questions and the interpretation of a weather chart. Some longer mark questions including a very challenging 9-mark ‘assess the extent to which’ question on the impacts of UK climate change.
8 History A 15 question multiple choice knowledge test on key facts from this cycle – Impacts on Britain A GCSE style 20 mark question on measuring significance of impacts. Marked and gradedaccording to GCSE criteria.
8 JBACC A ten question multiple choice test on key terms and dates covered this cycle.  A 12 mark evaluation question based on a statement related to the topic covered this cycle.
8 Maths A twenty question test allowing recall and retrieval of all topics covered in lessons this cycle. Two 40 mark written assessments, with appropriate questions taken from past GCSE papers, marked according to GCSE criteria.

8 Music 14 question multiple choice assessment based on key terms and knowledge of this term. Performance assessment of blues pieces.
8 Science A ten question multiple choice test allowing recall and retrieval of on topics covered in the Knowledge Organiser this cycle. A 35 question written assessment, with appropriate questions taken from past GCSE papers, marked according to GCSE criteria.

Year 9

9 Cambridge National L2 Engineering Design 10 Multiple choice questions based on KO subjects and Do It Now tasks including Sustainable Forest management and techniques on the Centre Lathe. Reading an orthographic manufacturing drawing to produce a pictorial isometric 3D view to scale, rendered and annotated.
9 Computer Science 15 mark knowledge based questions on Von neumann architecture, memory and storage. 25 mark test paper on computer architecture, primary vs secondary memory and stroage.
9 English A twenty question test allowing recall and retrieval of the Short Story Unit covered in lessons this cycle. One 40 mark written assessment, with a question adapted from a past GCSE Language paper and marked according to GCSE criteria. Grades have been generated using grade boundaries based on boundaries in previous examination seasons and information released by Ofqual.
9 Geography Mixture of short answer knowledge-based questions including a number of multiple choice questions and definitions of keywords. Some longer mark questions including a challenging 9-mark ‘To what extent…’ question on the influence of China in other countries.
9 Health and Social Care A 20 question multiple choice test on Component 1 (PIES). Past paper  questions on work completed during Term 1.
9 History A 15 question multiple choice knowledge test on key facts from this cycle – Impacts on Britain A GCSE style 20 mark question on measuring significance of impacts. Marked and graded according to GCSE criteria.
9 iArt Photography 10 question test assessing recall and retrieval of Cameraless Photography and the Camera Obscura. Cumulative assessment of progress of photographic theory and sketchbook work.
9 JBACC A ten question multiple choice test on key terms and dates covered this cycle.  A 12 mark evaluation question based on a statement related to the topic covered this cycle.
9 Maths A twenty question test allowing recall and retrieval of all topics covered in lessons this cycle. A full GCSE past paper (split into odds and evens) depending on current tier of entry.
9 MFL 25 mark quiz testing knowledge and grammar from this cycle End of unit assessments in Listening and Reading; including multiple choice, longer comprehension questions and a translation task, as students will see in a real GCSE exam.
9 Music Grade 1 music theory paper. Composition of a piece of music for a TV advert.
9 Performing arts- Dance Students completed a theory paper based on the two professional pieces of repertoire we have been studying this cycle Completed technique and performance skills
9 Performing arts- Drama The students performed a short monologue in the style of John Godber. Completed a theory paper based on Godber style and characteristics
9 Science A ten question multiple choice test allowing recall and retrieval of on topics covered in the Knowledge Organiser this cycle. A 35 question written assessment, with appropriate questions taken from past GCSE papers, marked according to GCSE criteria.
9 Sociology A 20 question multiple choice test on the Sociological Approach and Research in Sociology Half a past paper’ –  11 exam style questions covering the Sociological Approach and Research in Sociology
9 Sport Studies A 20 question multiple choice test on Sport Leadership and responsibilities. Completing a piece of course work on Roles, Responsibilities and Leadership styles in Sport.

 

Year 10

10 Cambridge National L2 Engineering Design Unit R105 reduced mock paper based of the Engineering Design Cycle topic. Unit R106 Product Analysis and Research sections 1 and 2 of 6.
10 Computer Science Carefully selected past GCSE test questions were accumulated to test the uderstanding os key concepts realting to data repersentation and converting between binary and hexadecimal. The students were given a paper that tested how well the could apply thier knowledge of data compression, adding binary numbers, sampling sound, and ASCII.
10 English A twenty-five question test allowing recall and retrieval of the Romeo and Juliet Unit covered in lessons this cycle One 30 mark written assessment, with a question adapted from a past GCSE Literature paper and marked according to GCSE criteria. Grades have been generated using grade boundaries based on boundaries in previous examination seasons and information released by Ofqual.
10 GCSE Music Key Terms Paper. FREE composition coursework.
10 Geography Knowledge and skills questions featured within the ‘Living World’ section of the 2018 Paper 1 sat by students. As they are embedded within the paper, a percentage has been recorded for application only. Range of questions from the ‘Living World’ section of the 2018 Paper 1, culminating in a 6 and 9 mark question.
10 Health and Social Care A 20 question multiple choice test on Component 3. Past paper on Component 3.
10 History A 10 question multiple choice knowledge test on key facts from the Early Eliazbethan England course A full Early Elizabethan England Paper with questions fully representative of the breadth of the study. Projected grade may be lower that indicative grade to reflect nature of completing 3 papers rather than 1 in Summer 2021
10 iArt Photography 10 question test assessing recall and retrieval of elements of the history of Photography, camera function and theory of composition Cumulative assessment of the progress in journals, practical and porfolio work.

Year 11

11 Cambridge National L2 Engineering Design Students continued working on Unit R107 Developing and Presenting Engineering Designs. The reason for this is that they had a scheduled exam in Y10 but not in Y11. This Coursework unit has 3 learning objectves including free hand sketching, developing ideas using Computer Aided Design and labelling and annotating ideas with material, assembly and process information.
11 Computer Science The learners completed a complete GCSE Paper  1 from OCR Exam sesson in June 2018. The learners completed a full GCSE Paper 1 from OCR Exam sesson in June 2018.
11 English A twenty question test allowing recall and retrieval of An Inspector Calls and Language Paper 1, covered in lessons this cycle. A full Paper 2 Language GCSE past paper. Grades have been generated using grade boundaries based on boundaries in previous examination seasons and information released by Ofqual.
11 GCSE Music Exam Mock. FREE composition coursework.
11 Geography Knowledge and skills questions featured within the ‘Living World’ section of the 2018 Paper 1 sat by students. As they are embedded within the paper, a percentage has been recorded for application only. Full 2019 Paper 1 Projected grade may be lower than indicative grade due to students having a revision checklist and only completing one of the three papers.
11 Health and Social Care N/A Did not complete as students are completing coursework Completion of coursework.

11 Science There wasn’t a knowledge assessment given to year 11 students, as they sat three full mock papers. Three full past papers, in Chemistry, Physics and Biology, marked and graded according to GCSE criteria. These scores are combined to give a combined science linked grade.
